Grand Copthorne Waterfront
With a grand opening in 1999, this mixed use project along the bank of the Singapore
river is comprised of two hotels including a 574 room 5-star Millennium Hotel tower
and a planned 314 room 3-star tower. The colorful promenade along the river revitalizes
the waterfront, which services the business and exhibition district of Shenton Way,
Clarke Quay, Suntec City, and Chinatown.
Restoration of the historic Biltmore Bowl was undertaken to re-create the original
grandeur of this famous ballroom.. Having hosted the Academy Awards and other galas,
the 800 person ballroom was completely gutted and the floor level modified. A meticulous
interiors program, including archival research, Cultural Affairs approvals, and studies
of original detailing was part of the design effort.
Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila
A short distance from Manila Bay near the historic Manila Hotel, this mixed-use development
features a 5 storey atrium within a skylit festival marketplace consisting of 17,000
square meters of retail shops, restaurants, night clubs, and cafes. A 280 room Hyatt
hotel and condominium tower located on the northwest corner of the site offers sweeping
views of the city and Manila Bay.
Completed in 2005, the hotel's first and second levels underwent a multi-million
dollar renovation of the entrance lobby, registration area, gift shop, restaurant,
1,000 person ballroom, twenty-one meeting rooms and guestrooms. MDR provided architectural
and interior design services to meet the Westin brand standard for Starwood Hotels
and Resorts. The project was nominated for a Golden Key award and earned a 4 diamond
AAA rating.
